Essay on Spanish Civil War The White Terror - 3295 Words
The White terror that occurred in Spain during and after the Spanish Civil War refers to the actions carried out by the Nationalist regime. Among these actions were politically motivated acts of violence, rape, and murder. Such brutality was used because the Nationalist Movement believed that they needed to cleanse the country of all leftist ideologies. Lfhe purge of the nation did not stop with the wars end because there were still those individuals who refused to change their beliefs and accept the Nationalist way of life. The post-war White Terror was the beginning of new policies that lead to economic collapse, the spread and takeover of the Catholic Church as well as social changes that did away with individuality. The White Terrorâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The association of pain and suffering with the political views of the Republicans caused people to change their beliefs out of fear for their lives. Emilio Mola believed that is was necessary to spread terror throughout the country so that there would be a sense of mastery instilled upon the people.2 It was necessary for the leaders of the revolutions to be feared so that they would be respected by the people of the country when the war was finished. It was also necessary to do this so his men would continue to fight for him. Ifmercy was to be shown by Mola, the chances of a Nationalist victory would have been drastically reduced. This is because the soldiers would have also been merciful, which would also of caused them to have lost. Interest in their cause for the war. A loss of interest would have meant defeat for the nationalists because soldiers would have given up and the opposition to leftist ideas would have died out. The late stages of the White terror that occurred during the rule of Francisco Franco had caused Spain to appear as if it were a prison. Anyone who opposed or spoke out against the dictatorship was right before the military courts where they were most likely to be condemned or imprisoned. 3 .All other political parties were abolished so that there would be no opposition tof-e ilie Nationalist policies. All labor unions were also abolished because they were believed to be leftist in nature. Holden Caulfield, the main character in J.D. Salin Essay Example For Students
Holden Caulfield, the main character in J.D. Salin Essay gers The Catcher in the Rye, is what I believe to be one of the most well-developed characters which I have read about. He has many characteristics that are all his own, such as the way he views the world, his friends and his family. One of the main things that characterizes Holden, is that way that he thinks the entire world is phony. Holdens view of the world as phony is a very strong one, and in most cases, is correct. Holden thinks that the majority of the people in the world are putting on some sort of an act to impress or befriend people. In a way, Holden is probably correct in thinking that most of the people he came in contact with are phony, such as his roommate at Pencey, Ward Stradlater. In one instance, Holden refers to Stradlater as a secret slob. He describes how Stradlater always tries to be neat and tidy on the outside so as to impress people, but how he is not when you get to know him. In the scene where Holden and Stradlater are in the can, and Stradlater is getting ready for a date, Holden describes Stradlaters razor as rusty as hell and full of lather and hair and crap.Another of Holdens run-ins with phonies, came to him while he was in New York City. He was lonely and looking for someone to keep him company, so he calls a girl named Faith Cavendish. He was told about Faith by a friend of his who went to Princeton, Eddie Birdsell. When he calls Faith, she has no desire to talk to him whatsoever, and she makes that quite clear, until Holden drops the name of Eddie, and she instantly perks up at the thought that Holden might be an important person. She asks Holden where hes calling from, and he replies a phone booth, and he tells her that he has no money, and she then tells Holden that she has no time. The wat that Faith changes her mind so quickly when she finds that Holden has no money is a prime example of the phonies Holden encounters. Another general example of what Holden thinks is phony is actors. He talks about how D.B. took Phoebe and him to see Hamlet, and he talks about Sir Laurence Olivier, and how the play would have been good, except that Olivier knew he was good, and that spoils it. Holden says how he cant go to a play and pay attention to what the actor is saying because he has to keep worrying about whether hes going to do something phony every minute.Holden has another incident with phonies when he invites Sally Hayes on a date. Holden takes her to a play, which he considers phony as it is, but then at intermission, Sally meets a man who she hasnt seen for years, and they began a big phony act. Holden says,Youve though that they hadnt seen each other for twenty years they probably even hugged and kissed checks and all. This is the kind of behavior that Holden obviously never grew up with, isnt used to, and doesnt like.Through his experiences in New York City, and his many flings with phony women, Holden grows to believe that everyone in phony in some way. He thinks that the whole world is phony, and its not likely that everyone in the world is corrupted or phony, so is it possible that all the characters in the novel are all really normal and Holden is really the only phony one?

As I learn and seeing the issues that clients have, I am detecting that there is much more to larn. There are many concerns that I still do non cognize how to manage, but I am larning and will larn more in the close hereafter. Some of my personal qualities include being motivated and enthusiastic in a thoughtful and respectful mode. I am able to keep a gracious and caring demeanour, even in nerve-racking state of affairss. I am truly concerned with other people and seek to handle everyone with courtesy and kindness. I have ever had the desire to analyze and endeavor in my country of involvement. When I had an chance in 2005 to travel back to school, I was to the full committed to stand out in my surveies. My end is non merely to acquire good classs, but besides to to the full understand the constructs in my surveies and be able to analyse them. There are many societal issues in our society that I would wish to personally lend to for the betterment of society. Through acquisition, I was able to understand some of my ain experiences from the yesteryear, and alternatively of taking them as a awful lesson, I accepted them as disputing journey. Upon geting at this university, I was determined that I would pass my following four old ages in chase of new thoughts and experiences. Current and Past Experiences 3. What professional accomplishments and experiences make you an appropriate campaigner for our plan? Sing my work experience, since 2005 I have been responsible for day-to-day scheduling of activities and supplying positive behavioural ends and aims for an eight twelvemonth old male child with high working autism. This twelvemonth, I was employed at California Psychcare as a behavioural teacher. This company is one of the sellers for North Los Angeles County Regional Center where I provide therapy for kids with autism. Besides my parttime work, I have besides been an intern since August 2009 at the Domestic Abuse Center, which is located in Reseda, California. We are trained voluntary advocators reacting with constabulary to domestic force calls, offering immediate aid with medical, legal and reding referrals and shelter options. From January to May 2009, I was a voluntary at the Therapeutic Living Centers for the Blind in Reseda, California. The clients were lawfully unsighted and besides had some grade of cognitive disablement. My interactions with them included larning appropriate suggestion, aid and communicating techniques. In May 2009, I received a Dr. Russ Miller Scholarship Award given by the CSUN Sociology Department. Future Goals 4. Discourse how your professional ends are consistent with the mission of the CSUN MSW Program. Sing my professional ends, I have a strong desire to assist others. This insight comes from the fact that my female parent had a serious mental upset, viz. bipolar upset, while she was alive. In Yugoslavian society, it was a shame and a stigma to hold person mentally badly in the household. My female parent tried difficult to set and to move normal, but this was beyond her abilities, peculiarly around the clip when the civil war started to interrupt out in Yugoslavia. Alternatively of demanding to set, the household members should hold understood that they had an sick individual in the household. My male parent and I lacked this cognition at that clip. When my male parent got ill from tummy malignant neoplastic disease, the whole state of affairs was whirling out of control in my household until it ended in calamity. My darling female parent could non get by any longer with life s challenges and she committed self-destruction. My male parent died five months subsequently. I strongly feel that my female parent could be alive today, had she received aid, which is the ground for my pick of future calling. After finishing a Maestro s grade, I would wish to develop psycho-educational workshops. Families with mentally sick members frequently find themselves bowed down. These households do non hold the appropriate cognition or accomplishments to manage or take attention of the mentally ill ; they need particular preparation, support and cognition. Furthermore, the households need to cognize how to interact with service suppliers efficaciously and how to interact with their mentally sick members. Consequently, I strongly believe that these workshops will ensue in good results for the whole household. I neer had any professionals nearing me and offering me this cognition. Even though we were a in-between category household in Yugoslavia, it was assumed that if we did non necessitate fiscal aid, we did non necessitate any other aid or information. Hopefully for some households who have a mentally sick member, this support in the signifier of workshops will be good. My other passion when it comes to career aims is assisting soldiers returning from war to set to mundane life once more. We can work to develop a clinical scheme to range out to traumatized veterans who have non been able to return to civilian life. After finishing the MSW plan, I would wish to, as a societal worker, offer veterans and their households some services such as resource pilotage, crisis intercession, protagonism, benefit aid, and mental wellness therapy for conditions such as depression, station traumatic emphasis upset, and drug and intoxicant dependence. For many combat veterans, their jobs are compounded by multiple mental complaints. Therefore, in confronting the challenges on return from combat, it is critical for the veterans to have household support and apprehension. Many civilians are judgmental when it comes to returning veterans, claiming they are strong and will acquire over their war experiences. It is hence the responsibility of a passionate psychiatric societal worker to educate the populace about this sensitive subject and to assist these veterans who deserve to be helped. These are my chief calling aims. I come from a state with rich cultural and cultural diverseness, where I lived as an cultural minority. This self-awareness helps me understand cultural sensitiveness better every bit good as the clients cultural beliefs, when working with the specific client populations. Beside English, I speak Magyar, Serbian and Croatian and I am in the procedure of larning Spanish. Knowledge of Spanish will be an plus for me as a societal work practician. Physical, societal, psychological and emotional jobs attributable to lifestyle, environment, substance maltreatment and emphasis will go on to turn in figure and complexness. There will be a demand for originative and inventive intercessions. Professional Objectivity 5. Identify three client populations that might make a value struggle for you or that might do you to lose your professional objectiveness. Describe what attack you will take in order to work with each population listed. One of the client populations for which I need to be more nonsubjective is working with gang members. I realize that being in a pack is more than merely making drug trades and take parting in other illegal pack activity. My attack to get the better of this shortage is through instruction to larn about the history of packs, their linguistic communication and symbolism, economic considerations and factors that contribute to gang activity every bit good as the hazard factors and the impact of migration and in-migration on packs. I need to larn about how to turn to the root causes, to acknowledge that immature people frequently join packs to accomplish a sense of belonging and happen a supportive community in them that they often lack at place, to understand the interior workings of the pack to happen out precisely what it provides, who its members are, what activities they are involved with, and how its leading is structured. I believe that these striplings are non inherently bad ; alte rnatively, faced with limited picks, they are doing determinations that lead them down a negative way. Another client population doing value struggle is the terminally sick as such brushs will expose me to feelings of hurting, sorrow, choler, weakness, and hopelessness. Puting realistic short- and long-run ends in handling these clients and concentrating on what can be done, even in state of affairss that seem hopeless, can forestall a sense of failure and desperation. Furthermore, accomplishable ends can be set even in the hard state of affairs of handling terminally sick patients. The ends might include bettering the patient s quality of life in the concluding yearss, transfusing a sense of pick and credence of physical restrictions, assisting them cope with separating from household members, and analyzing their precedences. The 3rd client population is the aged. Aged clients are fond and eagerly delay for a societal worker to see them. Most of them treat the societal worker as a friend. Professional objectiveness is required, so that I will non visualise the client as a household, and to maintain in head that the end is to assist them develop the ability to make good without a batch of support. Time Management 6. Clearly describe the programs that you have made in order to guarantee that you will be able to finish the MSW Program you are using for given the class work load of the plan and the figure of hours that are required for field instruction. As I work portion clip for 15 hours per hebdomad, I have chosen to set about the three-year plan. My hubby works full clip and I am non the exclusive fiscal supplier for my household. I am be aftering my other countries of life around my surveies, so I can to the full perpetrate and maintain up with good classs. 7. If you are using for the threeaÃâ ?year plan ( or stated that you would see either plan on your application ) , include an extra treatment sing your current employment, clip direction, and specific programs to suit 16 hours per hebdomad of field instruction ( of which eight to sixteen are during internship concern hours ) during the 2nd and 3rd old ages of the plan. My work is flexible ; I largely work afternoons and sometimes on weekends. As stated before, I work as a behavioural teacher with kids who have autism. I go into the clients places to supply services. I neer work more than three hours per session. I have been able to set up a professional, but friendly relationship with these households ; hence, I can alter my agenda, every bit long as the needed hours are completed.

Nursing Theory free essay sample
Nursing Theory: Explanation and Relevance to Nursing Practices Katherine Lott Azusa Pacific University Theoretical Foundations for Nursing UNRS 306 Professor Cone May 20, 2009 Merriam Webster defines the word theory as a belief, policy, or procedure proposed or followed as the basis of action. There are various categories of theories accepted and practiced throughout the world and throughout professional practices today. One example of a type of theory is a nursing theory. However, some might not be fully aware of what a nursing theory entails, examples of such, and the relevance of nursing theories. This paper will explain these matters. What is a nursing theory? A nursing theory is an expression that has arose from a philosophical perspective that explains some phenomena. Overall, it is used to describe the accumulation of knowledge that is used to support nursing practice. It incorporates experiments and research to define nursing and nursing practice; furthermore, it gives reason to the accepted principles that form the basis for practice, and goals and functions of nursing (Wesley, 1995). We will write a custom essay sample on Nursing Theory or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page In essence, a nursing theory enables understanding of what, how, and why nurses continue to practice. What is the origin of a nursing theory? Her book titled From Novice to Expert explains Benners view that caring is a necessary component in the theory of skill acquisition. She describes nursing as an enabling condition of connection and concern (Marriner-Tomey, 1989, p. 192) which implies a high level of emotional involvement in the nurse-patient relationship (Benner, 1984). Benner speaks of the power of caring and describes the caring role as involving the concepts of transformative power, integrative caring, advocacy, healing power, participative/affirmative power, and problem solving (Benner, 1984). She takes a stand in her belief that that nursing care is more than the application of mere skill; it is relational and involves the nurses response as a human being, first, and then secondarily, in the nursing role (Benner, 1984). Altogether, Benner was able to develop a nursing theory that involved the holistic care for the patient through an in-depth nurse-client relationship. Through this relationship the needs of the patient are able to be identified and prioritized to provide the best nursing care for that individual. This paper was able to describe what a nursing theory entails and its origin, examples of such, and the relevance of nursing theories. Overall, a nursing theory explains the knowledge that is used to support the nursing practice and there have been nurses throughout history with their own personal views of what nursing meant to them and how they were going to focus their practice. However, no matter what each theory entailed, every theory was able to conceptualize in useful ways and ideas that help make sense of what they do as nurses. Reference Benner, Patricia. (1984). A source of legitimate power 5 bases/sources of powerReward, coercive, legitimate, referent, and expert power Coercive, reward, legitimate power ââ¬â are considered formal bases of power Referent expert power ââ¬â are personal bases of power Two other bases of power Informational power vs. charismatic powerInformational power ââ¬â is the power held by an individual who has the information necessary for others to accomplish a task or goal Charismatic power ââ¬â is the power that attracts one individual to another Empowerment isThe transfer or delegation of responsibility authority from managers to employees; empowerment is the sharing of power (sharing vision, mission, knowledge, expertiseâ⬠¦) Change Planned Change Theory Central to Lewin theory A field ââ¬â Force ââ¬â have 2 forces (driving force vs. restraining forces) By Kurt Lewin (a German psychologist ââ¬âif u care!!! ) The concepts of field and force Can be viewed as a system (if one part of the system change, then the whole system must be examined to determine the effect of that change) Driving force ââ¬â encourages/facilitates movement to a new direction, goal, or outcome Restraining force ââ¬â (opposite with driving force). Restraining forces block or impede progress toward the goal. Problem-Solving and decision-making processes The Rational Decision-Making ModelInvolves a cognitive process where each step follows in a logical order from the one before. By cognitive, It means -based on thinking through and weighing up the alternatives to come up with the best potential result. Bounded rational decision-making model (Bounded rationality) Means that humans are unable to make entirely rational decision b/c of the limits of human mental abilities and b/c of the influence of external force on decision making. A decision maker is said to exhibit bounded rationality when they consider fewer options than are actually available, or when they choose an option that is not the best overall but is best within the current circumstances. E. g. , someone spills coffee on a shirt in a restaurant, and goes next door and buys a poorly fitting shirt to change into immediately. Obviously it would be optimal to buy a proper fitting shirt. But if the person is in a hurry and cannot wear a wet, coffee stained shirt, then buying the poorly fitting one is appropriate. This is an example of bounded rationality Group Decision Making modelOften used when the decision is complex, such as when a new process or product is being developed. Advantage: the decision made may be higher quality Major errors may be avoided Disadvantage: Take longer to reach decision May lead to compromises that really do not solve the problem Organizational Quantitative Decision-Making Techniques Rely on facts quantitative measures (data based) to make decisions (although intuition judgment still influence the decision making process) Conflict Management Characteristics of a conflict situation: Conflict Mode Model 2 types of response: cooperativeness vs assertiveness Thomas Kilmann (1974) ââ¬â 5 conflict-handling modes/strategies: Thomas (1976) recommended that the FIRST COURSE of action is to discern (recognize) the other partyââ¬â¢s intent in causing the conflict before determining how to respond Cooperativeness ââ¬â focus on statisfying the other personââ¬â¢s concern Assertiveness ââ¬â focus on statisfying oneââ¬â¢s own concern 1. Competing or forcing ââ¬â used when the issue is important, needs speedy resolution . Ex. An individual pursues his own concerns at the other persons expense. This is a power-oriented mode in which you use whatever power seems appropriate to win your own position. (Assertive but uncooperative) 2. Accomodation ââ¬â opposite of competing. When accomodating ââ¬â the individual neglects his own concerns to stisfy the concerns (assertive and cooperative) 3. Avoidance the person neither pursues his own concerns nor those of the other individual.

Complete List of IB Schools in the USA, by State
Complete List of IB Schools in the USA, by State SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips As a former IB student, I highly recommend the IB Diploma Programme. I think I was far better prepared for college than my non-IB counterparts. I had been prepared to think critically and globally. If you are a parent or student interested in enrolling in an IB Diploma Programme, this article is for you. I've compiled a list of all the IB Diploma Programme Schools in the United States and arranged them by State. I have also provided several of the schoolââ¬â¢s Diploma Rate. The Diploma Rate is determined by the percentage of the students who receive IB diplomas out of those who were diploma candidates. Not all students who pursue an IB Diploma will receive the degree; you must complete certain qualification (achieve certain test scores and complete certain projects to a satisfactory level). For more information on this, check out our other article, What is the IB Program? And What are IB Classes? How to Use This Information First and foremost, you should use this information to locate the IB Diploma Programme School nearest you. If you are lucky enough to have a couple of IB Diploma Programme Schools in your area or if you are simply trying to decide between an IB and non-IB schools, then you should compare the two using a couple of data points. What Questions Should I Ask When Comparing IB Schools or an IB and Non-IB School? If you are comparing two or more IB Diploma Programme Schools (or an IB School with a non-IB School), I recommend emailing the IB coordinator at each school (you can contact them through the schoolââ¬â¢s hyperlink below) and asking for: The schoolââ¬â¢s IB Diploma Rate (mentioned above, but again, this is the number of students who received IB Diploma out of all of the IB Diploma candidates at that school) However, this should not be the be all end all. According to one IB coordinator, ââ¬Å"IB allows schools to not count some studentsââ¬â¢ scores, so the school will not drop the student in order to help their percentage.â⬠So, the rate may not be reflective of the whole schoolââ¬â¢s performance. What is the admission criteria for their IB Programme (usually it differs from the High Schoolââ¬â¢s overall admission criteria) The overall graduation rate How many graduates are headed to 4-year schools You should also look at how long they have been an IB School (the older schoolââ¬â¢s tend to have better teachers and Diploma Rates) You can find this information on the IBO school page (simply click the hyperlinked school name and you are there). If you are comparing an IB School to a non-IB School, email someone in the administration at the non-IB School and ask for: the overall graduation rate how many graduates are headed to 4-year schools the admissions criteria The answer to these questions are important, and if the IB coordinator/administrator is not willing to answer them, you should be wary of the school (Most likely, it means they are performing poorly in one or all of these categories). I am going to do a sample comparison between Pedro Menendez High School in St. Augustine, FL, and St. Petersburg School in St. Petersburg, FL, using the information I have: IB Diploma Rate, how long they have been an IB School, and IB Programme Admission Criteria. High School Pedro Menendez High School St. Peterburg School Diploma Rate 52% 90% IB Programme Started 2010 (First IB Graduating Class in 20) 1983 IB Programme Admissions Criteria Pre-IB classes in 9th and 10th grade in English, Spanish, Science, and Mathematics Writing sample Preâ⬠requisite courses: Algebra 1 Honors Test scores: (public school students) READING: 6th or 7th grade FSA (Florida Assessment Test) score of 352 or higher AND MATH 6th grade FSA score of 347 or higher OR 7th grade FSA score of 347 or higher 6th 7th grade Final Academic Grades (math, science, social studies, English, world language) of Aââ¬â¢s Bââ¬â¢s. 8th grade Semester Academic Grades (subjects listed above) Aââ¬â¢s Bââ¬â¢s Students who do not meet the above testing or academic grades criteria may be placed in this group based on a common rubric that is used to calculate the percentage of criteria the student has demonstrated. At least 10% of the incoming 9th grade class will not meet all of the qualifications. Based on the information given, if my child or I met the qualifications for St. Petersburg High School, I would choose to attend their program given the fact that their IB programme is over 30 years old, and the IB Diploma Rate is so high. The school clearly knows the IB Programme well, and you or your child is much more likely to receive their IB Diploma if they attend this school. Receiving your IB Diploma will help you get college credit and save money down the road at your university. Read more about this in our other article, What is the IB Program? And What are IB Classes? Critically evaluate claims that there has been a transformation in the character of biomedicine and the emergence of a new paradigm for health care at the start - Essay Example e used in order to explain the development of health and illness within a particular society or among a specific part of the population (using as criteria the gender, the ethnicity and so on). From a different point of view, it is suggested by Eisenberg (1977) that disease is a different concept from illness. In fact it is stated that disease could be better described using the following description: ââ¬Ëphysicians diagnose and treat ââ¬Ëdiseasesââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ (Eisenberg, 1977, 11) whereas ââ¬Ëâ⬠¦ patients suffer ââ¬Ëillnessesââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ (Eisenberg, 1977, 11). On the other hand, in accordance with a study of Helman published by Ember et al. (2004, 733) ââ¬Ëtraditional classification of illness can be divided into four classes: natural, supernatural, personal and socialââ¬â¢. In other words, health is closely related with the social and cultural characteristics of a specific society. The level of technology developed within the particular society could be also regarded as having a significant impact on the health conditions of the specific population. Under these terms, the development of biomedical model of disease/ health can help in order to understand all the aspects of health and disease within a particular society or in relation with a specific part for the population (gender, race and class inequalities could be observed in this case regarding the level of health provided to people within a specific state). The main characteristic of biomedical model of disease/ health is the fact that the above model regards health as the absence of disease. In this context, all theories referring to the relationship between health and disease could be equally applied in order to examine the credibility of this model in all its aspects. In accordance with the study of Turner (1987, 9, in [2]) ââ¬Ëthe model assumes that all human dysfunction might eventually be traced to such specific causal mechanisms within the organism and it presupposes a clear mind/body distinction where ultimately the
